25th Licensing Round Announcement

“On 19th November 2020 the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (MPE) announced the 25th Licensing Round with a total of 136 blocks available in the Norwegian Sea (11) and Barents Sea (125).

IGI have extensive experience working as consultants across all areas of the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), completing 84 projects since 2010.

These typically range in scope from semi-regional screening studies perfect for license applications (source maturity, erosion estimates, source rock expulsion timing, volumes and GOR prediction) to fully-integrated, prospect-scale work as part of the G&G work of awarded licenses (e.g. charge risk, PVT prediction).

Our geochemical databases cover the Norwegian Sea & Barents Sea, containing data for around 60,000 samples from over 340 wells, including data from wells in and close to now available blocks. All data are fully QC’d and available in both p:IGI & Excel formats, allowing a quick and reliable interpretation of source rock potential and fluid characterization. The databases, compiled from released geochemical reports, have recently been updated and are now up to date till the end of 2019. They are ready for stand-alone purchase or the data can be included in bespoke project work carried out by IGI. The most recent updates include additional data for around 3,000 samples from 36 wells in the Barents Sea, as well as data for over 1,400 samples from 25 wells in the Norwegian Sea.

In addition, IGI’s off-the-shelf multi-client reports provide a quickly digestible source of information to help understanding of the petroleum systems. Both the Barents & Norwegian Sea reports are based on previous versions of our regional databases and contain:

- Interpretation of source rock richness, kerogen type, maturity and lateral variability

- Quantification of uplift/erosion events from maturity data

- Oil quality, maturity and oil-source correlation (inc. indications of Cretaceous or Paleozoic sourced fluids)

- Gas geochemistry

- 1-D modelling to help predict source maturation history

Figures from the report can quickly improve and substantiate the application Sections 3.1 & 3.2.

With the application deadline on 23rd February 2021, our products and consultancy can help you maximize the use of this tight turnaround time and improve the depth of understanding of the petroleum system and prospectivity.
