Ranald Kelly
Project Manager and Senior Basin Modeller
Ranald joined the company back in 1998 and over the past 14 years has gained considerable experience and expertise in the reduction of exploration risk in a host of petroleum systems through the integration of the following disciplines:
Construction, calibration and interpretation of basin models using Platte River's BasinMod, IES/Schlumberger's Petromod and Zetaware's Genesis/Trinity suites of software
Detailed understanding of the controls on and sensitivity of the spatial and temporal variations in basinal heat flow, its modelling and role in the prediction of hydrocarbon generation, expulsion and migration
The characterisation of and parameters that define hydrocarbon source rocks in terms of their kerogen type and hydrocarbon potential and their responses to time-
The host of geochemical parameters that define source rock maturity, their measurement and interpretation
Placing limits on hydrocarbon volumetric estimates and likely hydrocarbon phases in relation to source rock maturity, fluid flow and reservoir temperature and pressure history based on a basin-
The structural and tectonic controls on the present day distribution of sediments, their burial history, uplift and erosion and the role of the lithosphere in basin development
Recent responsibilities now include the management of basin modelling and geochemistry projects, personnel, client relations, problem solving, time keeping and final product delivery in the form of detailed reports and presentations to clients. Ranald also presents and runs comprehensive basin modelling and geochemistry courses to the industry, including field studies.
When out of the office Ranald is a part time yoga and meditation instructor, devoted husband, father and surfer (not always in that order)
