Michelle Dart

Petroleum Geochemist & Basin Modeller

M
ichelle graduated from the University of Cambridge in July 2010 as a Master of Natural Sciences (MSci).  During her final year of study she completed an independent research project focussing on the oxidation state of the subcratonic lithosphere. Using an electron microprobe and LA-ICP-MS she determined the compositions of xenoliths samples and was able to constrain enrichment histories beneath the Tanzanian and Kaapvaal cratons. A new method was used which allowed determination of the oxidation state from data collected using the electron microprobe and it was the first successful study of its type at the University of Cambridge. The study had implications for understanding diamond formation and stability in the region.

Following graduation she went on to join ERC Equipoise in the September of that year becoming involved in many projects within the oil industry. She has experience in structural analysis, volumetrics, depth conversion, prospect analysis and risking as well as familiarity with industry standard software such as Kingdom, Petrel and ArcGIS. She was also involved in developing log correlation software using MATLAB.

Michelle joined IGI Ltd in April 2012 as a Geochemist and Basin Modeller.  She will be involved in evaluating geochemical data, characterising hydrocarbons and source rocks as well as basin modelling with the aim of quantifying and risking potential hydrocarbon sources worldwide.

Outside of work Michelle is a pool enthusiast, hoping to become involved in the local North Devon league. She also enjoys cycling and is currently training her dog Dakota to compete in bikejoring and scootering events across the region.
