IGNET

As a support for p:IGI, IGI has developed igNet, an Intranet (CD) manual for Integrated Geochemical Interpretation written within HTML pages and viewed using any net browser.

The 400+ linked pages of this manual will empower exploration and production geologists, reservoir engineers and other E&P staff to address geochemical elements of their work from sampling, via analysis to interpretation.

For more detailed interpretation, the CD will prompt the geologist to ask pertinent questions of the specialist geochemist, whilst the specialist will find it a cavernous source of background information.

The igNet information matrix may be accessed from a number of angles, ranging from company functions (exploration, production, etc.), via analytical techniques (Rock-Eval, GC-MS, etc.) to commonly encountered problems (designing a single well geochemical program, calculate the oil and gas charge to trap).

IGI's petroleum geochemistry intranet will empower exploration and production geologists and reservoir engineers to address geochemical elements of their work with confidence. The topic covered range from sampling to interpretation with an extensive section on background theory

The manual's information matrix may accessed from a number of angles, including company function (exploration, production etc.), analytical procedures, process-orientated interpretations and commonly encountered problems. In addition, a search facility is available, together with a geochemical thesaurus. Browsing is supported by formal links ('back', 'up', 'child pages' and 'home'), by intra-text links jumping to other pages, and by graphical ' hot spots' linking visual with textual information.

A typical explorationist might use the manual to provide information relevant to:

Collecting, transporting and analysing samples (safety observations, sample containers, transportation, service laboratories, approximate costs and analytical time).

Designing and costing an analytical programme (e.g. for single well, reservoir, acreage or basinal projects), and examples of digital formats for data receipts.

Interpreting source rock and hydrocarbon screening analyses based on industry-standard plots, together with the background for, and examples of, more detailed molecular and isotopic interpretation.

Background theory including unit conversion, molecular structures, ratio definitions and company customised pages.

Common situations requiring petroleum geochemistry are illustrated including oil and gas charge calculations, estimating migration efficiencies, origin of non-hydrocarbon gases, oil and source rock correlations, calibrating 1-D and 2-D burial history models, mapping present and palaeo-maturity, establishing compositional compartments in a reservoir and surface geochemistry.
