Geochemistry and Basin Modelling Course

IGI will be running a 5 day Geochemistry and Basin Modelling course at IGI's offices, Monday 14th - Friday 18th May 2012. This course will consist of a basic 2-day course in Geochemistry followed by the option to attend either a 3-day course in Basin Modelling or a 3-day course in Advanced Geochemistry ( see future courses for further details).

David Gardiner Joins IGI

IGI is pleased to announce David Gardiner has joined IGI has a Petroleum Geochemist & Basin Modeller.

IGI opens a new office in Birmingham

IGI is investing significant resources into the software development side of the company, and has opened a new office at Faraday Wharf on the Birmingham Science Park Aston in the city of Birmingham. Dan Cornford has joined IGI on a part time basis (continuing to hold a Reader position at Aston University), and will lead the software activities in IGI. We are creating an enhanced software development team managed by Anthony Jones (who has relocated to the new office) and we are currently recruiting two additional programmers to work with him on our p:IGI software. We will also have a student placement for 12 months beginning this summer. Our plan is to push forward strongly with the rapid development of our new p:IGI+ software whilst continuing to develop p:IGI-3.

p:IGI User Group 2011

Details and booking form are available for the 2011 User Group Meeting. This will be held at IGI's office in Bideford on the 15th & 16th September 2011.

IGI staff to attend several international conferences in September/October 2011

The
PESGB Africa conference (Africa: A Legacy of Exploration and Discovery)will be held in London on 7th-8th September, and will be attended by Paul Farrimond.

A conference entitled
Source Rocks: Character, Prediction and Value will take place at the Geological Society, London, on 12th-14th September. Both Paul Farrimond and Andrew Green will be at this meeting.

Chris Cornford, Raingard Haberer and Gion Kuper will all be present at the
25th International Meeting on Organic Geochemistry, to be held in Interlaken, Switzerland (18th-23rd September). Chris will present a poster entitled “petroleum fractionation - what do we really mean?” A second IGI contribution will be a poster “Fluid Inclusion Stratigraphy (FIS) Data” by Daniel Stoddart (Lundin Petroleum) and Paul Farrimond.

The PESGB conference
Exploration to Exploitation in the West of Shetlands will be held in London on 4th-5th October, and will be attended by Paul Farrimond.

We very much hope to meet many of our clients at these meetings. Our staff will be available to discuss IGI's consultancy work, software, geochemical databases and training programmes with you.

IGI Participate in Local Bideford College Summer Science Family Fun Day

On Saturday 18 June Chris and Andrew joined other local science, sustainability and scout groups, along with local services from across North Devon at Tapeley Park to celebrate this year’s summer science fair. The theme for the day was “Water, Water, Water.”
Despite nature taking its chance to also participate in the day’s events by supplying regular downpours, the local people of Bideford and the surrounding area still ventured out making the event an overall success.
IGI was able to inform visitors of some of the usages water plays within the petroleum industry and how as geochemists we can combine formation water analysis to help our clients find oil and reduce their exploration risk.
Also on a more light hearted note IGI also provided water based fun activities allowing the children to test their lung capacity and also find out how the geology beneath their feet affects the water they receive out of their taps at home.

New Member of Staff at IGI

We have welcomed a new member of staff, Michelle Bright started with IGI Ltd. on June 6th 2011. She is working as an administrator in our office. She will be focusing on our Software administration as well helping with the general office duties.

American Association of Petroleum Geologists Annual Conference & Exhibition

Andy Mort recently attended the AAPG Annual Conference and Exhibition in Houston, TX. Two of the interesting themes which came out of the conference technical sessions were:
Improving couplingof established geochemical paradigms and geological realityapplications of geochemistry in the oil industry, particularly in the exploration of unconventional resources
These both relate very closely to IGI’s core philosophy.

Houston Organic Geochemical Society (HOGS)

Whilst in Houston, Andy also presented a talk at HOGS, kindly hosted by Chevron. The talk was entitled:
“Bigger = Better or Bewildering? Uses and pitfalls of large global datasets in geochemical interpretation”
