Further Details

This post is a new one created primarily to work on a large project to produce and quality assure petroleum geochemical databases for different geographical regions of the world.  This project is likely to have a two or more year timescale, and we would envisage this post being broadened into work on other geochemical projects within IGI Ltd. both during and beyond this particular large project.

Your primary role will initially be to work on this large project as part of a team within IGI.  The work will involve the collation of all available petroleum geochemical data into an integrated database for each region, quality assuring the data, and contributing to the production of brief reports for each regional database.

You will use IGI’s own geochemical databasing and interpretation software (p:IGI) to build and quality assure each regional database.  The work will involve handling very large amounts of petroleum geochemical data in a variety of forms: paper reports, pdfs and similar images of reports, and spreadsheets or relational databases of mainly numerical data.  Consequently, you will also use scanning and optical character recognition software, in addition to common spreadsheet (e.g. Excel), and database (e.g. Access) software.  A thorough and organised approach to work and a good eye for detail are essential.

The job will also involve some travel to our clients’ main and regional offices to view and collect data for the project.

IGI undertakes projects combining geochemistry, geology and basin modelling for numerous oil companies, and we would anticipate you contributing to some of these, as time and your increasing experience permits.

We also hold training courses in geochemistry and modelling, and field trips, for various clients, and would encourage your involvement in these when practical.

Salary will be in the range of £20,000-32,000, depending on experience.
IGI offers a Stakeholder Pension scheme and will help towards relocation expenses.
